I can't believe it is that time again! The summer FLEW by! All the teachers at BES knew class lists were being mailed.... so what does Mrs. Low do? Why jump in her car and drive as fast as she can (the speed limit of course) to the school to beat the postman....to grab her class list before it can go in the mail....just so she can get a peek the NIGHT BEFORE it arrives at her house in the mailbox. (No, I am not the only crazy teacher who does this...) :)
It happens every year. The day class lists arrive is like Christmas morning for teachers. This is the tenth time I have had trouble sleeping. Like a little kid, anxiously awaiting the day I can get my hands on that piece of paper. The paper that holds my future. It lists the names of my new kids! My new students! I ripped open that envelope as fast as I could, and just like that... I have 20 something new babies! 20 something new lives to impact, teach, and love.
I've spent a little time in the classroom the past 2 weeks, taking down and setting up. It is always bittersweet when I use cleaner to wipe away the names that belonged to my 23 precious children from last year and then write new names where they used to be. Those names might be wiped from classroom supplies, but they are never gone from my heart. Each one I wiped off this week brought back a fond memory of a smile, a laugh, a gain that was made, a goal accomplished. It's one of the parts of my job I love the most. I get to take a memory of each of the lives I spend 180 days with along with me. I only hope they take a memory of me along with them too!
So here's to another school year! The big number TEN at BES. I can't wait!
